Venus Transit

Sunrise, the sun showing through the haze. It's out of focus, but you get the effect.
Before third contact, when Venus was still within the disk of the sun.
Overexposed image that shows the small, faint sunspots near the center of the solar disk.
The black drop effect...nearing third contact.
The black drop effect, perhaps a little better shot.
The black drop effect, I guess third contact has happened now. The black extends beyond the circular disk of Venus.
A whole disk shot, after third contact.

Photos by Tim Poulsen, ©2004. Other than the sunrise shot, all are taken through a Celestron 4" f10 refractor, Thousand Oaks Type 2+ solar filter, Nikon CoolPix 4500 coupled to camera with a Williams Optics DCL28 eyepiece. The sunrise shot was just a handheld shot with the CoolPix.
