PHP-based web site backup tool. Install it on your web server to back up your files and MySQL databases quickly and securely.
March 2011 - spBackup is now released under the GPLv3 license and is available for free download. The program has not been updated, nor has it been tested against the newest versions of MySQL & PHP. It is provided without warranty. Please test carefully before relying on it for a production system.
You specify what to back up. spBackup gathers all your files and MySQL databases into a convenient Zip, tar/gz, or tar/bz2 archive file. From there, spBackup can email the file to you, FTP it to another server, or save it on your web server for you to download. (screenshots)
Back up one or more MySQL databases
spBackup lists the databases and tables on your server. Simply check boxes to specify which databases—or even individual tables—to back up!

spBackup lists the files and folders on your web server. Simply check boxes to specify which files and folders to back up. Due to PHP limitations, spBackup will not handle large files or backup sets well. PHP will run out of memory and the backup will fail. The file backup feature is meant to backup configuration files or small sets of dynamic data that would be required to restore a failed site. Use FTP to maintain a copy of your site's static files instead.
You choose how to handle the backed up data:
- Email it to yourself
- FTP it to another server
- Save it on your web server

spBackup is great for web sites featuring dynamic data, such as Mambo, *Nuke, phpBB2, and other CMS-powered sites. Many CMSes offer database backups, but you have to log in to their control panel to run such backups. With spBackup, even non-technical and non-administrative users can run backups.
