Notes and caveats:

Geolocation — the app determines your "fine" location in order to mark the address of a sale. The address of a sale will be empty till the GPS fires off a "location update" event. The address & lat/long fields on the main screen flash red when your location is detected and updated. Wait for that before marking the location of the sale.

Battery life — the app keeps the GPS on to track your location. Sorry, that's going to use up some battery life. I've tested it with JuiceDefender (Android, which turns off the GPS when the screen goes off) and haven't had troubles. Your mileage may vary.

User tracking and data storage — sale data is stored on your phone, it is not uploaded to the web. So, your location is not tracked by me. The app was developed using the Appcelerator Titanium framework, which provides me basic analytics data — when you open up the app, how often, etc. — but to my knowledge it doesn't include any personally identifying information.

App size — Sorry, the app is pretty large thanks to the Titanium components. It installs to your SD card (Android) or can be moved there. I optimize as best I can.

Planned features:

An iPhone version is in beta testing now. Subject to Apple's approval, it will be published soon.

No promises, but here are the features I might add in upcoming releases:

  • A way to record those "please leave the items [in the garage/on the porch/with a neighbor/etc] if I'm not home" situations
  • Add translations (Spanish, French, others?)
  • Printing — probably through some sort of upload to a web site from which you can get a printable list of sales & locations
  • Maybe someday a product-selection picker so you can specify what items someone is buying. This is a biggie. It would let you get rid of order sheets altogether. But, it would require a bunch of back-end features: a way to enter or select products before you go out selling, a way to save and upload data to create printable sheets to give to your fundraising coordinator, etc. We'll see. This is definitely in the "maybe" category.
